After the Protoype Metre

The authority of a measuring tape is to measure and describe space or objects. By translating a thing into inches or centimeters, it owns an abstracted version of that thing.

This measuring tape reads in centimeters on one side, and inches on the other, reminding us that even the Imperial System of measurement is defined by the metric system. The cloth tape reminds us of a tailor's tool, and thus of the human body, and yet its length seems excessive to describe the human frame.
